About Harmonic Garden | Meet Our Founder & Teachers
Harmonic Garden
Harmonic Garden was founded by Josh Janitell, a performing pianist with a classical piano performance degree and a teaching lineage that traces back through his teachers Zahari Metchkov and Abram Minzer to Leschetizky, Schnabel, and ultimately Beethoven himself. Josh's own playing spans far beyond the classical stage. He performs jazz, funk, blues, and lounge piano, composes and produces original work, and serves as Vice President of the American Music Society in Colorado Springs. That same range shapes how Harmonic Garden approaches every student: a strong classical foundation, taught by real working musicians, with room to grow in whatever direction inspires you.
Our Teachers
Harmonic Garden's teachers are working musicians first: performing, recording, and composing outside the studio, not just teaching from a curriculum. Each brings their own style and specialty to lessons, so whether you're drawn to classical technique, jazz improvisation, or something else entirely, there's a teacher here suited to that path. Lessons are shaped around what you actually want to play, not a one-size-fits-all method.

Our Home
The Old Midland School Building
Harmonic Garden is housed in the Old Midland School, a red sandstone and brick landmark on Colorado Springs' eclectic Westside. Built in 1902 to replace an earlier schoolhouse, the building served generations of students, including under the famously exacting principal Augusta Kneipp, before passing through a colorful string of owners: a private family residence, a Catholic school, and a private Christian school. It earned a spot on the National Register of Historic Places in 1980, and in 2007 was converted into office and studio space by L Ducett.
Harmonic Garden moved in 2026, joining a building that still carries its original tin ceilings, woodwork, hardwood floors, and intact classrooms. We're proud to make music inside a piece of Colorado Springs history, stop by and see it for yourself.
